My Personal Journey
Some times we set goals that are impossible to manage. When I first wake up in the morning, I immediately calculate the hours of sleep I got. A good night is 5 to 6 hours sleep. However most nights I sleep for 3 to 4 hours. There was a time when I would try everything to fall back asleep but now I embrace it. I get up and make a coffee then head to the back yard for a smoke and fresh air. I know realistically it’s not the best way to start the day but “This Is Me” and my lifestyle. If I’m going to join you on this journey it’s important I keep it real.
The problem is, now I have an entire day to fill. I have tried building a routine in the past but following the routine felt impossible. I was constantly feeling like a failure. I set a goal to drink 2 L of water a day. I realize now that this was an impossible task for me. I set my goal too high and made no changes in my lifestyle to motivate myself. This time I hope things will be different. I have made some adjustments and I’m hopeful that I will eventually drink the recommended dose of water.

Choosing a Goal
I chose drinking more water for my first goal. I researched the benefits and other alternatives to water. It is recommended that you drink a glass of water before having your first cup of coffee, It sounds like a simple task. Not for me, you see I hate water even with added flavors; and have a poor memory. In the past I would just deliberately skip the water and push that little button on the kettle. Then there are the days when I would take my first sip of coffee and realize, I forgot to drink the water. Just the thought of drinking water is huge effort on my part.
How Can You Manage your Goal
I had to ask myself what can I do to achieve this goal. I decided that maybe if I have the water in constant view it will encourage me. I have a water bottle sitting in every room of my house so I don’t forget. I could replace the warm bottle for one in the fridge but I prefer room temperature. I am convinced that any amount of water is better than not drinking at all. I may not have it all figured out but at least I’m trying.

Its been several years since I can honestly say I drank the recommended daily intake of water. It’s time I give it another try. This is my seven day challenge starting today!!!
