Have you ever walked in a room and immediately felt the energy around you. If it’s a good vibe chances are your ready to head over to the buffet table and grab a snack. On the other hand if the energy is quiet and reserved your ready to grab the door handle with an excuse to leave. It’s hard to imagine that one person can change everyone’s energy in the room but it does happen.
You may have noticed fewer posts are about my personal daily journal and more about the struggles many are challenged with. That is because since the heavy snow and news about a friend moving, I could hardly handle the energy that possesses my daughter. She has become withdrawn and lost all motivation. Sure we sit and chat about the day ahead. Only Brittany has become so depressed she just wants to be alone.
Is it so wrong to want to keep all that negativity confined to one place? There are many ways people hide their depression. Some people constantly eat but eventually the guilt of eating becomes a new thought and reason to be depressed. Others will join clubs or attend groups but never manage to stay long enough for the support they desperately need. Then you have the people who put on a fake smile and do their best to cover up their feelings. Eventually it just takes one conversation that will break you down and tears will begin to drip slowly upon your face.
Maybe a bit of quiet time alone in a room is just what you need to regroup. If only you could turn the dark room into beautiful colors of light. If only you could turn the volume down in your head to listen to the sounds of nature around you. If only you could replace your anger for laughter from the ones who care about you.
When my daughter tells me I don’t understand depression I never argue that I do, I always remind her that I may not understand her depression but don’t be fooled by the fact that I feel the negative energy she is creating.
Today I will be attempting once again to help her through the pain. We will have our morning chat but with upbeat music playing in the back round. I’ll find funny videos to make her laugh. Then I will bring in my Studio light that’s so colorful and bright. I know she will push back and refuse the music I play, turn off the light, and have no interest in funny videos but at least I am acknowledging her pain. All I can do is wait for her to acknowledge the need to change the energy that she is creating for herself. Although I know the reality is depression will never go away, I also know that there is a way to manage it if you can find the small drive inside of you to get there!
Why not start a fresh day with a new attitude!
