Join Me on a Personal Journey to Self Care

My Journey to self care starts before I roll out of bed in the morning. Like many of you I once suffered with nagging thoughts in my head as soon as I awoke. Often I would have so many negative thoughts I just wanted to roll back over and dream a little dream once more. I made a promise to myself, I promised that this year I was going to make positive changes that will change my life.

If anyone Practiced being themselves instead of pretending to be what they aren’t There would be peace.

John Lennon

Most people have a daily routine that allows them to wake up feeling ready to start the day. If your working or caring for children chances are you already have the next day planned. Having a daily routine establishes structure in your life. This makes us more efficient, causes less stress, reduces anxiety , good habits form and helps get important tasks done. As a result you are living a healthy life-style.

However if your in the middle of a life changing event, chances are your daily routine is broken. This can include, divorce, relocating, sudden disability, or urgent family care. Under these circumstances planning your day can be impossible. Some changes are only short term and your quickly back up on your feet ready to settle into a new daily routine.

What about the times when your left with a chronic illness or disability. This can require years of rehabilitation to rebuild a lifestyle. Unfortunately it will likely have a major impact on your mental and physical health. Many will experience, anxiety, panic attacks, depression and social disconnection. They will likely rely on anyone that is willing to help them. This can cause one to become fully dependent and vulnerable. That is why having a care team and full-time care provider can be life saving. Your love, support and care is valuable to their recovery. You can be the one that gives them the courage and strength to push through each day.

If I cannot do great things
I can do small things in a great way
