Tumbling Blocks

This morning I was ready to stack up my thoughts like a plate of pancakes smothered in the sweet taste of maple syrup. After a 15 minute brain exercise of organizing my thoughts , I have all the right ingredients to cook up a perfect day.

My day always begins with a fresh cup of coffee and the unpredictable company of my daughter. I say that because Brittany’s mood changes quicker than a speeding freight train . Her memory is best described as a puzzle of missing pieces and I am the creator that helps build a picture perfect day.

I have recently tried to have Brittany practice the art of planning in her mind before rolling out of bed but that’s harder than cracking a nut with your bare hands. That does not discourage me from repeating the same exercise every day in hopes that one day she will wake up refreshed with a plan in motion. For now we start with a daily chat and discuss one activity at a time to start the day.

Today she chose to practice a new song called Smoke on The Water. She had been practicing the song Hurt by Johnny Cash for almost two months, so you can imagine my utter shock when she finally decided to try a new song. My heart wanted her to continue learning Hurt but it was more obvious than a single red rose growing among a bed of white flowers she was never going to remember the tabs. At least she wasn’t giving up, instead she decided to face defeat in the moment and learn to set smaller goals that are manageable.

As for me I had the luxury of cutting my cats nails before he alerts me with his not so gentle paws that it’s time for his morning feed. Mr Feenie, is a chunky orange and white tabby with more demands than a swat team at a hostage stand-off. I worry one day he may become a cattibal and eat all the cats in the area. “Ok maybe a little over exaggerated but I do feel like I’m on constant food duty”.

Mr. Feenie’s nails are cut and Brittany is strung out from playing her guitar. The day has just began and we each earned our first shiny block. Any small accomplishment is a small piece of success for a promising future.
